LX Pantos Carries Korean Relief Goods to Turkey by Sea
- Koreans’ generosity leads to the donation of 100 tons of relief goods daily, overwhelming the air cargo capacity of Korea-Turkey flights
- LX Pantos to provide USD 200,000 worth of maritime transport vouchers to the Turkish embassy in Seoul to assist in earthquake recovery efforts
On February 24, 2023, LX Pantos announced a crucial initiative—a donation of USD 200,000 worth of maritime transport vouchers to the Turkish embassy in Seoul. This strategic move is expected to alleviate some logistical challenges of transporting relief goods from Korea to Turkey.
As a key logistics partner of KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), a government agency specializing in overseas aid, LX Pantos has established a robust and permanent international logistics response system for disaster emergency aid, which is backed by the Korean government. Immediately following the earthquake in Turkey, LX Pantos responded swiftly, facilitating the urgent air transport of relief goods provided by KOICA.
According to the Turkish embassy in Seoul, the cargo capacity of Turkey-bound flights stands at a mere 15 tons, falling far short of the amount necessary to transport the staggering daily influx of 100 tons of donated goods from across Korea. The situation prompted the Turkish embassy in Seoul to plead for assistance with LX Pantos, which decided to provide USD 200,000 worth of maritime transport at no cost.
Whenever the Turkish embassy requests, LX Pantos assumes responsibility for the entire process—from domestic inland transport for relief goods in Korea to the maritime leg reaching the local destination in Turkey. This support comes in the form of logistics vouchers, with LX Pantos covering the associated logistics costs from the USD 200,000 worth of vouchers issued to the Turkish embassy.
Choi Won-hyuk, CEO of LX Pantos, expressed the company’s firm commitment behind this initiative, stating, “As a global total logistics company with operations in Turkey, LX Pantos recognizes the dire situation faced by the Turkish people post-earthquake. This support is our contribution to aiding those most in need.”
This effort builds on LX Pantos’s history of engagement in humanitarian efforts, with past collaborations having assisted KOICA during disasters such as the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake in Japan, the 2016 earthquake in Ecuador, and the 2017 floods in Sri Lanka. The company’s dedication to international disaster relief continues to make a tangible impact on affected communities worldwide.
