LX Pantos Achieves Korea’s First Int’l Certification

for Lithium Battery Air Transport

 - First Korean company to receive CEIV Li-Batt certification from the IATA

 - Establishing a foundation for expanding into the rapidly growing EV and lithium battery markets through specialized competitiveness

LX Pantos has become the first Korean company to receive CEIV Li-Batt certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the transport of lithium batteries. This significant achievement comes as a strategic move by LX Pantos to enhance specialized competitiveness to capture logistics business opportunities that abound in the rapidly growing global electric vehicle (EV) and battery markets.

LX Pantos announced that it was awarded the lithium batteries transport certification by the IATA at a ceremony held on May 25, 2023 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Incheon. LX Pantos is the first Korean company to attain CEIV Li-Batt accreditation from the IATA.

The CEIV Li-Batt—a sub-framework of the IATA’s stringent hazardous materials management framework—is an international standard certification system for transporting lithium battery cargo. It ensures the stable air transport of lithium battery cargo by rigorously evaluating 33 criteria across 10 categories, including transport procedures, facilities, regulatory compliance, and specialized personnel.

Due to the inherent risks of fire and explosion associated with lithium battery cargo, handling it requires a high level of caution during transport and storage, making it indispensable to acquire certification from an international organization for logistics companies dealing with lithium batteries.

The certification affirms LX Pantos’s establishment of a strict management system that complies with international standards for the entire process of handling hazardous lithium battery cargo. This achievement not only bolsters the company’s credibility in the global air logistics market but is also expected to provide a significant boost to its efforts in capturing and expanding business opportunities in the electric vehicle and battery logistics market.

According to SNE Research, a specialized energy market research institution, the global market size for rechargeable batteries for EVs is expected to grow to USD 616 billion by 2035. This projection represents a fivefold increase compared to the forecast for 2023, which stands at USD 121 billion.
