Pantos Logistics assumes the logistics role for disaster relief training co-hosted by South Korea and Thailand
- Swift support for disaster relief based on its global network of operation
Pantos Logistics, a global logistics business, took part in the international disaster relief training co-hosted by South Korea and Thailand, utilizing its global network of operation and displaying its competitiveness.
Pantos Logistics said that it successfully carried out the disaster relief-related logistics mission imposed on May 7 during the third ASEAN Regional Forum Disaster Relief Exercise (ARF DiREx) held in Cha Am, Thailand, which included a supply delivery from an aid-donor country (South Korea) on May 19 during the final phase of the exercise. The international disaster relief logistics system is composed of the following three phases: taking emergency supplies from an aid-donor country, delivering local supplies to a disaster victim area, and turning in supplies to an aid-donor country.
This ARF DiREx international exercise, which includes the participation of civilians, government institutions, and the military, is composed of a Field Training Exercise (FTX) and Table Top Exercise (TTX) for search, rescue and medical support and engages 27 Asia-Pacific countries to reinforce their capability to cope with possible disasters. It was first carried out in 2009 between the United States and the Philippines and since then, it has been carried out biennially as a multinational exercise.
※ ARF (ASEAN Regional Forum) is a forum established to promote peace and security through dialogue and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific and 27 countries, including South Korea, the United States, and Japan, in addition to the ASEAN countries.
The third session of the ARF DiREx co-hosted by South Korea and Thailand was participated in by a total of 27 countries, including ASEAN countries, the United States, China, and Japan, and 1,600-plus disaster relief experts from six international organizations. The following government institutions of South Korea joined in the biennial exercise: the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), an agency controlled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of National Defense; the Ministry of Health and Welfare; the National Emergency Management Agency; the National 119 Rescue Service, and; the National Medical Center.
During the 2013 multinational exercise, Pantos Logistics provided support for KOICA through the transport of South Korea-provided equipment, materials, and relief supplies, including overland transport within Thailand, on/offloading at ports, and personnel taking part in the exercise. Pantos Logistics paid meticulous attention to the collaborative network with local corporations in Thailand, which contributed to its successful performance of its mission in the first multinational disaster relief training session hosted by the home country.
Commenting on the event, a Pantos Logistics official said, “Swiftness is the most important factor in a logistics operation coping with a disaster. We could cope with frequently changing situations in the ARF DiREx, fully utilizing the network of cooperation that we operate in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, as we are a company that operates a logistics network composed of a total of 167 sub-networks worldwide. We are happy that we contributed to the enhancement of the national prestige of the home country through our participation.”
